So this isn’t really a recipe, but more like an idea. I’m all about making your own convenience foods, from seasoning blends, to packaged frozen vegetables you prep yourself. I’ve posted about homemade sausage crumbles before, which we use all the time. With these beef crumbles, it doesn’t pay for me to grind my own beef, as I get 90 percent lean ground beef at Costco for $3.16 a pound.
To make these crumbles, I just brown ground beef, with salt, pepper, minced garlic, and onion. I drain (but never rinse, like my mom did in the 70’s – – yuck!) I put the crumbles on a baking tray, using my silicone baking mat so the crumbles don’t stick. Parchment paper will do too. Freeze the crumbles, and then place in a gallon freezer bag. I use these crumbles in chili, soups, casseroles, pasta, or on pizza.
You can also add taco seasoning, dehydrated bell peppers and tomatoes to the meat for taco crumbles.
Making meal helpers allows to put a healthy dinner on the table each night, without the cost or preservatives. A little more work up front saves money, time, and dishes in the end.
